Experimental Starbucks, Denver

A different way to enjoy a Starbucks has popped up (literally) in Denver. Catering to the drive through market, it's a standalone mobile unit that has no seating space. While it's an interesting idea, I would like to see if it works for other types of 'drive through' traffic. Say, pedestrians or bicyclists? Perhaps this can be rethought further for the urban environment and be paired with a public space that allow people to mill about and sit as they enjoy their coffee.

I do think that the experience of Starbucks is lost in this idea. I think the idea of a personalized, fancy coffee experience, complete with baristas and seating areas is what attracts a majority of the customers. Wondering if we will continue to see more of these.

Bray's Island House

While not overly practical for the cold Canadian climate, I do love the idea of lots of windows on a house and the feeling of openness that it gives to almost any room. This house by James Choate Architecture is lovely, and is situated well on the site.

The concept of light and a treehouse comes into play for the Bishan Public Library in Singapore by LOOK Architects. It's a lovely and playful concept, I can imagine sitting there and looking through a lens of green, blue and yellow.

Glass House - Thomas Roszak Architecture

Beautiful images of this glass house which reminds me of the office of an architecture or planning firm. What caught my eye most was this beautiful and unstructured office. I like the idea of a table in the middle where all your thoughts and scribbles can lie out, rather than pushing them to the side where you might flip through them once in a while.

The Brain

A neat design based on what the architect, Tom Kundig, based the neighbourhood birthplace of invention, the garage. With a strong but neutral form, it lets this place become a playground for thoughts and inspiration with spaces that can change easily over time.

Seeing this proposal for the Yongsan International Business District of Seoul by Asymptote Architecture made me chuckle a bit inside. It is like the future buildings and architecture that you imagined as a child is finally here. How interesting is this? A place where if you want more light, you can just slide the top layer and have lots of natural light and exposure right in your home. Want more privacy, then just slide it back into place, complete with a porch. Very neat concept!

KIMA architects pick up these small, under-utilized and unusually sized parcels for infill development, and it's pretty interesting what they come up with. For such a small site, they managed to get a lot of light and some great space inside.

What a interesting layout for a small space. Located in Tokyo, Japan and designed by Mizuishi Architect Atelier, this house is located on a small triangular lot of just 29 metres squared. Really good use of space and creating different levels of living.
